Best Power Juicers

Hurom HU-100 Slow Juicer

When I began my juice fast recently the first thing that I needed to buy was an electric juicer. I knew nothing about juicers so I went to ebay and bought a Kenwood Juicer that was almost new. It works pretty well but has two properties I don’t like: it is very noisy and it doesn’t extract enough juice from the fruit and vegetables.

I should have spent more time doing my research. If I had I would have discovered that there are different types of juicers, centrifugal and masticating. The masticating juicer is better for serious juicing for a couple of reasons: centrifugal juicers heat the juice and they also inject more air into it. This causes oxidation, reducing the nutrient content of the juice and shortening its shelf life. Consumer NZ proved this by sending samples to the lab for testing recently. Once I had discovered this I began to search for a better juicer.

Researching online is great because you can usually find a YouTube demo  of just about anything you are interested in buying. I ended up buying a new Huro juicer because I was able to see it in action in this video:

Now this is comparing two excellent masticating juicers but you can see how the older model takes so much longer to do the job and it looks like hard work doesn’t it? But even more important for me is that the Hurom takes up less room on the counter. My kitchen is smallish and I already have a bread-maker and a mixer taking up counter space so small is beautiful for me.  It turned out that the Hurom was the only masticating juicer that has such a small footprint, all the rest are large like Greenstar.

Next I then went to Amazon.com to see if there was any feedback on the Hurom Juicer. First this is the description given:

Maximize the nutritional and taste benefits of juiced fruits, vegetables, and grasses with the dual-stage extraction power of the Hurom slow juicer. Based on the powerful auger juicer style, this super-efficient unit uses a Low Speed Technology System to crush then press foods for increased yield with minimum waste.

The extracted juice is smooth and consistent, loaded with antioxidants and vitamins, and free of foam, froth, or separation.

Quiet and compact, the juicer can easily be left on a kitchen counter so it’s ready to go at any time. .. ten-year warranty.”

The feedback from users is always a great help with online shopping. You certainly get a good idea as to whether the product is any good by checking them. The Hurom juicer has a lot of very positive feedback.

By this stage I was pretty sure I was going to buy the Hurom. I had checked out other popular slow juicers. By the way, slow in this context means that it is not ripping through the produce like the centrifugal. It doesn’t mean they are very slow- but you can see that from the video.

I bought the Hurom and waited impatiently for it to arrive. When it did I found it lived up to my expectations. I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and I love it. I can’t think of any real downsides to it except perhaps the price! The price for me to buy the juicer here in New Zealand was huge. I so wish I could have bought at Amazon.com for roughly 2/3 what it cost me here!

I think the best place to purchase a Hurom is Amazon.com if you can because they will give you free shipping and the price is good. Check it out for yourself here: Hurom HU-100 Slow Juicer as seen on TV.
