Best Weight Loss Diet?

fast-fat-lossWhat is the best weight loss diet? Nutritionists advise that we should lose weight slowly so a fast weight loss or fad diet is not the best weight loss method. Yet every year new diets appear online that claim to  produce fast fat loss. Why? Because that is what we want and what we search for online. Advertisers can access the search words and phrases that we use and fast weight loss, lose weight fast and similar terms are very popular searches.

Fast weight loss is unsustainable and even if the fat comes off it soon returns. In 12 months time you will be fatter than when you began your quick weight loss. That means the diet failed. It could equally well be called  a ” fast fat gain plan” . Even if you lose the weight what is the point if you are priming yourself for putting it back on with interest?

But I have to lose it fast for my wedding you say? Or maybe for a summer holiday or high school reunion. I know this feeling as I have it myself. But it isn’t worth it. Don’t do it.

So what is the best way to lose weight?

Research says that to lose weight we need a healthy diet plan that lets us shed no more than a 1lb a week on average.  We need also to change our mindset and our emotional thinking around food and we may need some help with this.

Exercise is another necessary addition to the best weight loss plans and this must include strength training.  Strength training stops us losing muscle. If we diet without this type of exercise we will lose a higher proportion of lean muscle. We want to lose fat not muscle or we will end up flabby and with a lower metabolic rate, priming us for future fat gain.

Finding The Best Diet For You

Finding a weight loss diet that works means finding one that you can do. One that doesn’t disrupt your life too much.  It is different for everyone. You may find that a low carb diet suits you best. With low carb you don’t normally have to count calories and if you choose the right one you won’t have to count carbs too strictly. The low carb high protein diets have been vindicated, they do work and they often work better than the more traditional diet. It is thought that they work because they prevent hunger which means you do not feel the need toeat so much. Don’t choose one that asks you to eat stuff that is full of unpronouncible ingredients and codes.

Other prefer to use a diet plan that tells you exactly what to eat. I don’t understand how anyone can live with these for long but if you can, go for it.

Others, like me prefer to calorie count because it means I can eat anything I like as long as it fits into my calorie credits for the day. You have to be good if you do calorie counting. Pick healthy foods and only rarely deviate from that. You need to consider the healthy food pyramid or you wil get sick. Don’t get too restrictive either. You ust lose weight slowly if it is to last,1500 calories a day is reasonable for a woman. You won’t get hungry on that and you can eat most things including a glass of wine if you like.

I use a software program  to keep track of my calorie intake.  I plan my meals roughly the day before. After a week or so you know what to eat without having to look it all up so it is’t hard at all. I have tried everything else and this is what I find works for me. There are lots of good programs around where you can keep track and get help. This  one looks good and is free. Alternatively try one of the electronic handheld calorie counters shown in the slide show on the right- these are all from Amazon.

Recommended Weight Loss Plans

I am adding some recommendations because my free and easy calorie counting method may not suit everyone. Perhaps you are looking for a diet plan that is more detailed. I only recommend the calorie counting method I described above because I have in the past tried all the others!  I will provide a list of these tomorrow.
